Who Are We Are Domi? All You Need To Know About The Czech Republic’s ESC 2022 Artists 🇨🇿

Will ‘Lights Off’ Qualify In Turin?

The Czech Republic were the second country this year to give us their entry, as We Are Domi won ESCZ 2022 with their electropop song ‘Lights Off’.

Find out more about the group and what we think their result could be at ESC 2022…

Who Are We Are Domi?

We Are Domi (also known simply as DOMI) are a band formed in Leeds, United Kingdom when they were studying at university in 2018. The group consists of Czech & Norwegian members: Dominika Haškóva (vocals), Casper Hatlestad (guitar) and Benjamin Rekstad (keyboard).

They began releasing music in 2019, and 2 years on they were announced as one of the seven participants in the returning Czech national final ESCZ 2022. They won both the international jury & international public vote, and came 4th in the Czech vote behind Giudi, Elis Mraz and Emma Smetana & Jordan Haj. They were declared the overall winners on December 16th 2021, and have slightly revamped ‘Lights Off’ to have slightly more impact ahead of Turin.

How Well Will We Are Domi Do At Eurovision?

The trio will perform last in Semi-Final 2, and will close the show with a bang. As an upbeat song following a string of ballad/mid-tempo songs (Poland, Montenegro, Belgium and Sweden), the Czech Republic’s offering is sure to potentially “wake up” the viewer and get their attention, especially if they’re not into slower songs.

Unfortunately they do follow Cornelia Jakobs’ ‘Hold Me Closer’, who this year is a huge favourite to take the trophy back to Sweden for the 7th time, so there is a risk people at home may still be focused on her performance and song instead of what We Are Domi have to offer.

There has also been some concern over Dominika’s vocals from the pre-party run, but it’s worth remembering that they faced a lot of technical issues during most performances on this tour, so we won’t know how well she can sing the song live with no issues until they get to Turin.

One things for sure is that they’ll bring the energy & will be a great way to close off the last Semi-Final of ESC 2022. After a disappointing non-qualification by Benny Cristo in 2021, they’ll be looking to get back on track – could ‘Lights Off’ be the one?
