Una voce per San Marino: Semi-Final One Recap and What to Expect from Here ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

Una voce per San Marino, one of the most elusive national finals of the season, kicked off last night with semi-final one of three for 17 (originally 20) of the altogether 60 international emerging artists.

Firstly, letโ€™s recap the format of the competition.

UNA VOCE PER SAN MARINO

In this national final, the competing acts are divided by the classifications โ€˜established artistsโ€™ and โ€˜emerging artistsโ€™. The ten established artists who have already booked a place in the final on Saturday 19th February are as follows:

Christina Ramos

Francesco Monte

Burak Yeter and Alessandro Coli

Valerio Scanu

Blind

Ivana Spagna

Matteo Faustini

Tony Cicco, Deshedus and Alberto Fortis

Fabry and Labiuse feat. Miodio

Achille Lauro

The grand final will be hosted by none other than San Marinoโ€™s 2020 and 2021 Eurovision representative Senhit, alongside Jonathan Kashanian. The lineup notably contains Sanremo 2010 winner Valerio Scanu, Eurovision 2008 San Marino representatives Miodio, and everyone’s favourite Sanremo veteran Achille Lauro.

Nine yet to be decided emerging artists will join them. In each of the three semi finals (one having taken place last night, one tonight, and one tomorrow night), three artists will automatically advance from each. Furthermore, five artists from each semi will advance to a second chance round, which takes place on Thursday 17th. On Wednesday 16th, a semi-final exclusively for artists from San Marino will take place. Those artists are:

Alibi

Elisa Mazza

Garon x Duan

Gianda Pintori

Ginevra Bencivenga

Giuila Vitri

Three of these artists will advance.

On the 17th, the second chance round containing fifteen artists from the first three semi-finals will take place. Of these fifteen, four will advance to the emerging artist final.

Then, on Friday 18th, three qualified acts from each of the three semi-finals (making nine overall), three qualified acts from the Sammarinese artists’ semi and four qualified acts from the second chance semi-final will compete together in the emerging artist final to decide which nine singers will earn a spot in the grand final of the contest.

On Saturday 19th February, the nine emerging artists and ten established artists (totalling nineteen acts in all) will compete to represent San Marino in the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. The top three and winner will be decided by a jury which includes Susanne Georgi, who represented Andorra in 2009.

SEMI-FINAL ONE

Now that the format of the show is clearer, we can take a look at what happened in the first show last night before looking forward to the rest of the competition.

As previously mentioned, an expected 20 artists became 17 on the night, as Allerija, Corinna Parodi, and Diego Federico didnโ€™t appear. Nonetheless, after each act performed their competing songs, artists chosen to advance to either the emerging acts final or second chance round took turns singing a cover. Afterwards, the fate of the artists was revealed. The acts who we will see again in the emerging artist final on Friday are:

UK: Aaron Sibley โ€“ โ€˜Pressureโ€™

ITALY: Camille Cabaltera โ€“ โ€˜Move โ€˜Em Like You Never Didโ€™

ITALY: Elena & Francesco Faggi โ€“ โ€˜Nothing Can Blow Me Outโ€™

The artists who will be advancing to the second chance semi on Thursday are:

ITALY: Alessia Labate โ€“ โ€˜World Falls Downโ€™

ITALY: Anna Faragรฒ โ€“ โ€˜Randagiaโ€™

ITALY: Daniele Pisciotta โ€“ โ€˜Tic Tacโ€™

ITALY: Frio โ€“ โ€˜A noite todaโ€™

CZECH REPUBLIC: Eliลกka Mrรกzovรก โ€“ โ€˜Imma Beโ€™

Alessandra Simone, Alice Burani, Ashley, Brenda, Daniel Mincone, Davide Rossi, Elisa Del Prete, Ellynora and Florent Amare unfortunately got eliminated and their journeys end here.

Notably among the artists we will be seeing again are Elena Faggi, who participated in Sanremo Giovani during 2021 with โ€˜Che ne soโ€™. We also saw Eliลกka Mrรกzovรก, otherwise known as Elis Mraz, compete to represent San Marino with โ€˜Imma Beโ€™ last night. Eurofans will know Elis competed to represent Czech Republic with this same song, finishing second behind representatives We Are Domi.

It goes without saying that San Marino provided a light-hearted entertaining show last night and we look forward to watching the remaining shows in order to uncover more talent and see who wins the ultimate prize.

Who are you rooting for to represent San Marino this year? Do you agree with the results of semi-final one? How are you expecting the rest of the competition to pan out? Let us know!
