Swedish publication Aftonbladet have reported three more acts rumoured to be hitting the stage at Melodifestivalen early next year. With one former participant and two newcomers, will any of them represent Sweden at Turin 2022? Let’s meet them.
Faith Kakembo is expected to make a return to Melfest, having previously competed in 2021 with the song “Crying Rivers”. Kakembo placed fifth in the third semi-final of the competition and “Crying Rivers” reached number 18 in Sverigetopplistan, the Swedish national record chart.
Kakembo’s latest release is a cover of Christmas classic “O Come, All Ye Faithful”. Of course, we probably won’t be seeing this at Melfest but it still showcases the beautiful vocals we can be sure to expect from her. Plus, it’s certain to get you in the festive spirit!
If the (typically highly accurate) rumours are to be believed, this will be William Segerdahl’s first time at Melfest. However, it’s unlikely to be the first time most Swedish viewers have seen him. In 2018, Segerdahl participated in Idol, making it to the semi-final and placing joint third alongside Bragi Bergsson.
During his Idol stint, Segerdahl wowed the audience with his cover of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, which he performed alongside Swedish singer-songwriter Mariette. The cover has amassed over 4 million views and certainly showcases that the 19-year-old is a great vocalist. His latest release “Utan Mig” is also a duet, this time with Malin Christin.
Rapper and electronic hip-hop artist Niello is another newbie to Melfest. However, just like Segerdahl, he’s likely a very familiar face to Swedish audiences. In 2013, his second single “Legenden” reached number 3 in Sverigetopplistan and went double platinum in the country! Since then, it has amassed 30 million streams on Spotify.
Although subsequent releases have not done quite as well, Niello continues to get a good amount of streams and monthly listeners on his Spotify. Could this be the year Niello takes Sweden by storm once again?
